The Bell Tower of Wyndspelle: The strange Gothic history of Wyndspelle continues... (The Wyndspelle Gothic Trilogy Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

A gripping Gothic novel set in 1700s America! Perfect for fans of Daphne du Maurier, Kate Mosse, Stacey Halls and Emily Brontë.

To whom should Caryn be true — the king of England or the master of Wyndspelle?

New England, 1770

When a terrible crime robs
Caryn Allison of her home, her father, and her family’s livelihood, a handsome stranger comes to her aid. But safety comes at a price…

Marriage to revolutionary
Joseph Delgado guarantees a secure future for Caryn and her frail mother, but also means becoming mistress of the notorious Wyndspelle. Built atop a treacherous cliff and rumoured to be haunted, the brooding old house is like something out of a nightmare to Caryn.

And, worse still, her new husband is her political adversary – and, in Caryn’s eyes, a traitor to the king and an ally of her father’s killers.

Despite the strange attraction she feels towards Joseph, she vows to keep her heart under lock and key. But her hostility gradually alienates everyone at Wyndspelle, and even Joseph grows cold towards her.

Soon Caryn finds herself desperately lonely, and the house – almost a living entity in itself – frightens her. But with no means of escape, she is stranded — and, after an attempt is made on her life, terrified.

Then she meets
Peter Audel, and is immediately besotted with the handsome young English captain…

Will Caryn betray her husband and protector? Is Peter the key to her freedom or a ticket to disaster?

And what terrible fate might lie in store if she makes the wrong choice?

**SPOILERS**1770 Boston, mass,Caryn Allison and her family(father and mother)
are Tory sympathizers for which, their' home is burned to the ground. Caryn's father
dies and her mother loses touch with reality. Caryn goes to town to seek justice but,
is almost attacked by an angry mob. A sea captain,Joseph Delgado, rescues Caryn.
Joseph takes Caryn to his home,"Wyndspelle"(a forbidding, haunted(?) mansion).

while living there,Caryn somehow believes that Joseph is responsible for her troubles.
Caryn develops a strange dislike of Joseph(and his family and friends)bordering on hatred.
Caryn feels that the mansion is "alive" and "feeding" off of her.
This story is better than the first "Wyndspelle". The essence of this book is the relationship
between Caryn and Joseph. The reasons for Caryn's irrational emotions towards the others
remains unclear. The author suggests it is Wyndspelle itself because of it's history, which
    includes a burning(to death)of a so-called "witch",many years before and a curse put on the house.
It could be,the "history" of Wyndspelle,is playing on the subconscious of the fragile Caryn.
Caryn BELIEVES the house is "alive" and cursed, therefore, all people living in it are doomed !!!
